When you go to a Mexican restaurant you expect lots of flavor and spice. None of that happened here. The food lacked flavor, bland at best. It was also too greasy. The service was fast and the wait staff kind but at the end of the day if the food isn't good it's not worth it and this place is not worth it.

The food is nasty, the service couldn't be worse. And I'm a latina who knows about good latin food. Don't waste your time and money. 1st I ask to be seated outside, table was dirty, after 20 minutes of my waitress taking our order I realized she wasn't going to clean our table. I had to go inside and ask them to please clean the table, right there I had the feeling things weren't going to be so pleasant. 2nd there was a big chalkboard outside stating that KIDS EAT FREE. Picture attached, this was a good reason for us to try the place out. When I ask what was included on the free kids meal, they told me the special was only on Wednesdays, I when on a Monday. The sign did not said that. And this is a good way to make people walk in and later give an excuse and don't give any discounts. 3rd I order a Margarita, it was so bad I couldn't finish it, too strong. I tastes like pure tequila, if I want it a shot I would had order one. $10.99 I order carnitas chunks with onions. Couldn't eat the eater, too greasy. They are supposed to be clear of fatty parts. Conclusion: I'm from Atlanta and was on vacation at the time, I come back twice a year. But will never comeback here.

My friends and I were roped in by the promise of an inexpensive lunch, but alas -- I don't think I can personally recall a worse dining experience. The service was so far below average that I am forced to call it "poor," and the food itself was bland at best. In fact, the chili relleno I ordered as part of my combo appeared to be freezer burned. The only redeeming quality of our lunch was the chips -- which, judging by others' reviews, was a fluke. I suppose we lucked out that day! It is most unfortunate, as this restaurant is very near some of my family's home, and we drive past it on a regular basis when we are visiting. Now, of course, I can only take pictures of it and send them to my friends as a joke! I only wish I could give it 0.5 star.

This place was disgusting. The service was pretty bad and when I told the server we weren't happy with the food he just walked off. My husband was sick within 15 minutes. Horrible!!!! I only created an account here to tell people how bad this place was.

Don't come here! We came here because it was close to base. Brought us water and chips. We order our food and I ordered a corona light, literally waited 20 minutes. Nothing, no refill, no beer, no food. I didn't even see our waitress again. Seriously. DONT COME HERE.

Seriously the worst Mexican restaurant I've been to. My husband and I went there because there because it was close to home and decided to give it a try. Upon walking in. No one greeted us. There's a sign that says " wait to be seated" we stood there forever. Finally we hair said forget the date idea lets just go sit at the bar. We get to the bar and then asked a waitress we seen walk past if she seat is at a table. So we get to a table. The booths were dirty. I mean dirty. I couldn't even sit back and walking up there was big clumps of food on the floor. OMG lol my husband was clearly not as bothered as I was ! So anyways we order. He got enchiladas or something.. It was good. I ordered their vegetarian quesadilla which just has the veggies and instead of meat they put spinach. Now I am vegan and I know my veggies and how they look cooked, wilted, waited, whatever. My plate comes out and I noticed my spinach we look extremely dark even though I know it's cook and wilted so I eat it.. Hmm.. I open up my quesadilla pull out the " spinach " they gave me collard greens !! Freaking collard greens. So disappointed. On top of that my waitress hadn't checked on us, never brought me my water I asked for.. And I had to flag down another waitress to get ours.. I expired toer my problem calmly and nice. She assured me they only put spinach in it. But took my plate back. And gave us our check. Had to wait another 10 mins for her to come back to our table.. she never came. I flagged down another waitress's to ask her to bring us new check without my plate on it. Finally 10 mins later got our new check paid and left and Botha greed we would never go back to that establishment.

Took daughter out to eat. This is a local restaurant. It has changed management many times. Food is sloppy and not seasoned well. We attended during a down time in hopes of better experience and food. Management is sloppy. Arrived at 12:17 and only had appetizer of chips and salsa, which is complementary, and guacamole. At 1:14 still no entree. Simple order of chicken quesadillas and rice and beans. Guacamole was watery and presentation looked like it was plopped in the dish. No refill of chips or salsa during our wait. Will not waste our time again. Below average rating because Taco Bell at least gets it right. I would have rated negatively if there were stars for that.

The food is flavorless and seems like it was sitting in the window for a while, even though the restaurant is empty. The lettuce has obviously been frozen, and the server messed up our drink order which was water and iced tea. I had enchiladas verde. There was very little cheese in them and hardly any verde sauce. My fiancé got enchilada supreme but there was nothing supreme about it. Hardly and meat in them and the meat that was in there had little to no flavor. The chips that come out for every table tasted burnt and the salsa tastes like tomato paste. We will not be back. This is Mexican't food.

I just moved here from the AZ with my husband so we've been dying to find some great Mexican food and this just simply is not it. When we walked in the server seemed already stressed even though he had just walked in for his shift, though he quickly sat us and got our margarita order. The first things I noticed was that there was no music and they seemed to be understaffed and a little over crowded. We put in our drink orders and it seemed that our server was also the bartender because it took him about 12 minutes just to get our margaritas (which were wrong and my husband hated his) and then another 8 just to come back and get the order from our table and the one beside us. I used to be in management and one of the things I learned and found useful was that when your sitting for so long waiting on food or service you have a lot of time to take in your surroundings: broken, shabbily taped up windows, dusty ledges, filthy carpet and no ambiance, which made witnessing the unhappy woman on the other side of us complaining that much worse. By the time our server got the food to us (two mediocre baskets of chips & salsa later, we were starving!) he was in full sweat. He was so stressed he'd forgotten which plate went where but either way we were not excited in the least, which made it worse for him I think (he became over attentive after that.) I had the Carne Asada Tacos and my husband had an entree with about 6 different items. Oh, and they were out of carnitas which is what he really wanted. Greasy ground beef made up most of his meal and while mine had a better quality of meat, it was just as greasy. It came with tiny (and I mean 1.5 oz ramekins) of pico and guacamole but that was about the best part. By the end of it we just felt like there was a pit of grease in our stomachs and I was praying not to get sick from it. Even getting out of their parking lot was a hassle and I drive a compact car. We are by no means snobs when it comes to eating Mexican food but seriously? It seems these guys gave up a long time ago and shouldn't have even opened the restaurant that day. Or ever.

Horrific and uneatable!!!! 3 of us ordered Mexican dishes, and my daughter ordered a corn dog meal the dog inside was very!!!!! Sent back and replaced with another mediocre meal. I'll never return and I love Mexican food so this place was a complete failure. Had to pray I don't get sick!

They should either close and start over... or REALLY step up their game. We've gone to this neighborhood restaurant for years and they are in decline. (Maybe Peppers in Shalimar is cutting into the profit that they took for granted.) DIRTY dining areas: dust on pictures falling onto dirty table, floor... total yuck. Go into the bathroom and there is NO HOT WATER SOAP or towels. Should have left after seeing that. Service was ok, but the chips were stale, the margarita was barely ok... and the Nachos Loco was downsized. Won't be going back unless they make a concerted effort to improve and then advertise their improvements.

Out of all the mexican restaurants in the area I would just avoid this one altogether. Food is okay, nothing exceptional. The service was unspeakably awful. Granted I was with a group so I can understand being more of a challenge, but the place was empty and we only had one server (while there were others standing around). The food took forever. We could never get refills. It literally took an HOUR to get our check after asking because she kept bringing back everyone's check with all the wrong orders. When we spoke to the manager he did not seem to think anything was wrong or even offer an apology. You have plenty of other options around here, I recommend you decide on those.

DISGUSTING & INEDIBLE Call the health inspector, call Gordon Ramsay, call a doctor! I know times are tough but SHAME on you. BLAND INEDIBLE NO FLAVOR SOGGY OUT OF DATE EXPIRED FROZEN MICROWAVED REHEATED NOT FRESH The salsa out of a can and soupy. the $3-$4 guacamole tasted as if they added baking powder/soda and sizzled on your tongue, not made in house obviously, it was expired yet miraculously still green in color?! The chips were not fresh, reheated at best and made 2 days before. Uninspired before the food was served and hungry. This is not the quality of a Mexican restaurant nor a Tex-Mex. This is just plain lazy masking it self as a Mexican restaurant. Take away the sign, and let's call it a shitty diner. Hot plate coming at you. Naturally, because it's been sitting in the microwave nuking your frozen chimichanga, and then they slap some lard posing as refried beans. Bon Appetit, we just threw up on your plate and make you pigs pay for it. haha, jokes on you. It was inedible. Based on these reviews it's just a matter of time before they go out of business and rightfully so. Now that the summer is over there won't be as much tourist traffic to leach off of.

This review is based on a group of 7 having lunch on the 2nd week of Dec 2010. First, the ratings are posted below -- one of the guys had 2 meals -- but please continue to read all the way down. Chimichangas 3 Fajitas: 4 3 3 3 Enchilada 4 literally changed the guys life Speedy Gonzales 4 #17 shrimp: 3 Service: 4 Timeliness: 4 we had a party of 7 during lunch and they did bring all of the dishes at one time. It did take @20 mins. This place does stay busy as all of the tables stayed occupied. But the following day: the 4 guys who ate fajitas (2 had chicken 2 had beef) stayed up the entire night yelling "B-U-I-C-K" if you know what I mean. They came in the next morning looking like they had zero sleep, were still sick to their stomachs, and vow to not eat there again. Those of us who ate the other dishes didn't have any of the difficulty the guys had. Also, they asked me to change the ratings, which was a group concensus. Could be a one-time incident....so you decide.

I've always been skeptical about listening to others reviews, but this definitely made others opinions much more credible to me! The place was packed, so we decided to give it a shot. As with other Mexican restaurants, you get chips and salsa brought right away, but the chips were almost burned and the salsa wasn't to my liking. The food wasn't any better. I got tacos and they were probably the worst tacos I've ever had. Definitely a bad choice. My wife didn't like her meal at all either (it made her sick almost instantly, but that could be because she's pregnant). We were very disappointed because we love Mexican food and are aching to find a place we like in the area. We must look elsewhere. If you're considering eating here, be warned, you will regret it.

Went to eat there with the wife for a quick lunch without reading reviews, more of a spur of the moment thing. Overall, the food is bland, unimpressive, and not fresh. The chips and salsa as stated in a previous review are bland and canned, horrible combo. My wife hated her burrito, and my flautas tasted frozen.

We were not pleased at all with this Mexican joint!! I do not recommend it to anyone. The food did not have good flavor. It just didn't taste like Mexican food should!! The inside is very clean and nice, service was OK but the food just plain out sucked!!

  • Dave R.

Not real bad and not real good but it is authentic if you've ever been in real Mexico, not tourist Mexico. Service is laid back but friendly. Never go to a Mexican restaurant if you're in a hurry.

DON'T GO THERE. You'll thank me later. I've been here before because it's the closest mexican restaurant to my house and the experience had been ok, but last night was THE WORST. We never knew who our waitress was for the first 20 minutes which is how long it took for someone to ask us what we wanted for dinner. When we finally got the food she asked us if we were ready for another margarita, when we had just gotten our margaritas only minutes before the food (we had been surviving with water for the first 15-18 minutes until we got someone finally) and our margaritas were still pretty much full. Once we got our dinner nobody ever came to check on us. We even ran out of things to talk about, we just wanted our bill and get out of there. Found out after a very long time later that OUR WAITRESS HAD LEFT FOR THE DAY!!!! Maybe we should have left too. Throughout the whole ordeal, the service/floor MANAGER or perhaps owner was INEPT and INCOMPETENT. In most restaurants the manager comes and checks on you and will ask you what you need if the waiter/waitress hasn't had a chance to get to you. Instead, he just stood around feeling important but not doing absolutely anything. When I finally came up to him to tell him if we could finally order, instead of taking the order from me, he screamed the name of several waitresses to come see what we needed. HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHO OUR WAITRESS WAS!!! This manager or owner is a total incompetent and does not know how to run a business. In my younger days I worked at different restaurants to pay my way through college and the managers were far superior than this one at Los Rancheros. DON'T GO THERE. DON'T CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR PROFITS

This was the worst mexican food we have ever had. We should have left from the first hello from the server/hostess who had the personality of a blade of grass. Instead we stayed on our O.R because it was my sons birthday and he wanted Mexican food. Big mistake...huge! Next came the bland chips with canned salsa and a menu that offers fettucinne...WTF?? We are at a Mexican restaurant aren't we? Act III, our bland waitress came by to get our order and upon being told that the fish is frozen we should of hauled ass outta there. I mean really? We are in the gulf coast, fresh fish is in the back yard. Again, we should have left but we didn't. We were then treated to our 100% less than average meal of burnt steak and baby poop green fake guacamole with a side of cold canned beans n rice. Gordon Ramsey can not help this place. Don't eat here and hopefully they will shut their door and spare us all what we expect to have by tomorrow...dysentery.

Should have read the reviews before coming to this place, horrible customer service, the waitress was extremely rude and unprofessional. Avoid this restaurant!!!

If I could put negative stars on this restaurant I would , poor and extremely rude customer service , bring food to the table a never order and charge me for it besides the fact that they got all our orders wrong and the worst Mexican food I have had around this whole district, would've been better have better customer service and food in taco bell, avoid this restaurant and save ur money for something worth it , this restaurant makes McDonald's the best place for Mexican food

I was in the area and needed some Mexican. This place caught my attention w/ their $5 lunch signs. I knew I'd be paying more, but I stopped in anyway. True to their word, they do offer some $5 lunches, but nothing I was in the mood for. 2 for 1 margaritas all the time though. Start with the salsa, chips and order some cheese dip. Nothing was wrong with any of that. The cheese wasn't as white as I'm used to. More the yellowish-white side of the tracks. I ordered the steak tacos. Again, they were not bad, just nothing to write home about. The steak did seem a bit overcooked. The pico was really good, so were the refried beans. Rice, meh. I guess, I've come to expect the norm now with Mexican restaurants where I've lived. I've been on trips where it has been amazing (TX, AZ - although, not too sure how *amazing* it will be in Arizona anymore now that the chefs are in danger of immediate deportment). This place is just fine I guess. If you go, go for the specials. The margaritas and their lunches seemed good. I'd avoid a dinner entree at lunchtime though. My mistake, perhaps, but I was in a steak taco mood!

The told us, they do not like serving Black people. But before that it took me an hour and 30 minutes to get steak nachos. 3 out of 6 orders came out wrong and cold. The worst service ever. They also sat no one around us as we ate.

  • Heather S.

Used to be my Go-To restaurant. After dining a few days ago and leaving a good cash tip on the table ( $8 is sufficient for a $28 meal) as I always do I come home to balance my checkbook and see that who ever rang my card, Rang it for an extra $5 over as an added tip I guess. This is unacceptable! Going to confront the management tomorrow and never dine at this establishment again. Wonder how many others the staff have done this too as well!

  • Caryn R.

This place is awful! First of all the parking situation is horrible....very tight spaces and crowded. Service was bad. Food was disgusting. If you're going to get mexican, go somewhere decent like Cantina Laredo or Pepitos. I ordered 2 chicken tacos as part of the combination special. The waitress did not even ask me if I wanted crunchy or soft so I forgot to specify. Everywhere else I've been, they ask. So, when my food came out they were crunchy. I said something to the waitress, and she acted like it would be inconvenient to have to change it out to soft, so I didn't bother. By the time I got the second taco it was all mushy and not even keeping the crunchiness of the taco. Everything had a weird taste to it. The only reason they are even getting one star is because the salsa was ok. Don't waste your time or money on this place - yuck!

    (1)
  • Rebekah S.

Not good. Not disgusting, but not worth the money or the calories. We had pretty high hopes that this would be the elusive good Mexican restaurant we've been looking for. No such luck. Husband had fajitas - just "meh" at best. My fish tacos were equally underwhelming. I liked that they were grilled, but they were served with lettuce instead of cabbage and the sauce was just gross - tasted like ketchup mixed with mayo. Our kids had stuff off the kids' menu -- all of which was fine. No grand expectations for the kids' menu. All in all, for $50 we expect better.

Be careful of what they tell you... Waitress told us specials on the menu... ordered it, then refused to honor it saying she never said that, though everybody at our table heard her quite clearly. Also refused to honor military discount. Argued with waitress and manager several times. Would never go back. Their "fish tacos" were supposed to be grilled grouper, double checked to ask if they were grouper, waitress said yes. Clearly was not grouper, nor was it in even grilled. Fish were breaded and pan fried or deep fried, some kind of tilapia or swai. I just had grouper the day before so I had a very fresh taste in my mouth of what it should be, plus I catch them all the time myself. Sauce on them was some kind of russian dressing or ketchup/mayo mixture. Mango's were not fresh. Had carne asada tacos. They were actually kind of decent, but nothing special. Did not come with the typical onion/cilantro... instead a side of pico. Chips were not fresh or hot, not stale though. 2 for 1 drinks weren't bad. One of worst experiences ever. Biggest problem is staff here, the food was just "meh."

Don't even bother to go here. We used to live in Ft Walton and still come back to visit family occasionally, but will never eat here again. My last visit there was 2 years ago when, after eating half of my meal, I noticed a small, dead roach with it's long antennas in my yellow rice! Yuk, still makes me sick to my stomach still talking about this. My wife looked at it, immediately called our server over, and she confirmed it was a roach and appoligized. We were up and out of that place in a matter of seconds, and have not and will not ever return. Stay away from this dirty kitchen! If you still decide to go, check the health food inspectors web site first for their latest inspection/violations.

Came here for mothers day without reading any reviews. My wife usually doesn't like to go off of reviews, but I think this outing will change her mind. We were seated quickly and we ordered pretty quickly as well. We were served chips and salsa to start off and were ok. Our meals came out at a decent time and looked good. My meal was ok. Wasn't too tasty and my wife's meal was just ok as well. Once we got our food that was the last we saw of our server. We had to hunt her down to get our bill and then it took forever to get my card back. We won't be coming back ever again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
